Youth Politicians from Finland Observed Conservation Activities in Western Terai Complex

Youth Politicians from Finland visited Western Terai Complex from 14th April 2010 till 16 April 2010. The main aim of this visit was to familiarize the young politicians on issues of environment and livelihood in the developing countries.

 

On the first day, the politicians visited community seed bank in Belawa- Bardia. They interacted with farmers and observed the seeds of local crops stored at the bank. Besides, they also visited a community owned nursery. Later Mr. Tika Ram Adhikari briefed them about the Bardia National Park and its current status.

The team visit to Buffer zone community’s NTFP cultivation and processing plant site at Suryapatuwa VDC, Bardia. Ceremonial plantation was also organized at the bufferzone area of Suryapatuwa VDC.


The second day started with elephant safari in the Bardia National Park followed by Godhaghodi lake, Wetland Project demonstration area, visit to observe conservation efforts and to interact with local community.


In the evening, the team observed community managed Mohana Kailali corridor and interacted with the community group members. This interaction was recorded by local FM radio and will be broadcasted from 7 different local FMs soon.


On the final day, the team visited MEDEP project. They interacted with local entrepreneurs groomed by MEDEP and observed their micro enterprises. 

The team highly appreciated conservation efforts of endangered wild animals such as rhinoceros, elephant, tigers, crocodiles etc. and their habitat.
