Workshop on Role of Media in Conservation

A workshop on "Role of Media in Conservation" was held on 4 December 2006 with an aim to sensitize the media persons and raise public awareness about landscape conservation. It also aimed to inform general public about the ongoing activities of Western Terai Lanscape Complex Project (WTLCP). Most of the participant journalists were from national dailies, radio and television. The workshop was conducted by Nepal Forum for Environment Journalists (NEFEJ).

Training on Sustainable Community Forestry Management


Trainings on Sustainable Community Forestry Management were held for forest user groups and user committees of Baisebichuwa, Jhalari, Phulbari and Krishnapur Village Development Committees in Kanchanpur and Kailali Districts from November 9-26, 2006.

Support to Watershed Protection

WTLCP supported for diversion canal with embankment at Betkot Lake of Kanchanpur district to help minimize further pressure in the fragile Churia region, restore watershed value of Churia and help maintain hydrological cycle.

Trans-boundary Meeting held

With an aim of holding local level trans-boundary meeting, a five-member team led by Mr. Eak Naraya Aryal, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MFSC) visited Pilibhit Forest Division of India, adjacent to the Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve on 14 and15 Nov 2006.

Interaction meeting at Dhangadi

With the objective of sharing information about Western Terai Landscape Complex Project (WTLCP) with the key stakeholders, a half-day interaction meeting was held at Dhangadhi on 24 September 2006. A total of 40 representatives from Far Western Development Region - regional forests office, IUCN, WWF/TAL, CARE-Nepal, local political parties, NGOs, and local community based organizations were present in the meeting.
